These pom pom and tassel bag charm decorations are cute and colorful. And easy to make! Plus they are very popular right now. They work great on straw bags and especially nice on crochet type of handbags.
As you can see, they are nice, bright, cheerful and colorful. Plus they are a nice craft to make for all ages. They would be neat in your favorite school or team colors too.
Also – my Mom, Donna from Naztazia, liked this so much she used it on her Sweet Simple Tote Bag pattern. Both are great DIY (Do It Yourself) projects.

Pom Pom Tassel Bag Charm
- Embroidery floss or yarn.
You can use either embroidery floss or regular yarn with this project. I happen to like embroidery floss because it comes in really bright colors. Plus it is easy to comb and make really fluffy.
In my sample, I used 6 skeins of blue embroidery floss for the pom pom. And 1 skein of floss for each tassel. - Wooden beads and/or craft pom poms.
I alternate wooden beads and craft pom poms for each strand. You can do whatever you wish. Be creative!
- Key ring.
I find it easy to connect my bag charm by attaching a key ring to it. It also supports all of the pom pom, beads, and tassels nicely.
- Yarn needle and scissors.
You’ll need a thinner yarn needle to be able to go through the pom poms. Plus get some sharp scissors ready for cutting through the pom pom.
- Pom pom maker.
If you plan on making more than 2 pom poms in your life, you should invest in at least one pom pom maker. My mom and I love the Clover pom pom makers. If you are looking for an online source for the Clover tool, check out my mom’s favorite supply list on Amazon.
- Follow along with the video.
Basically you’ll make the pom pom first with 6 skeins of embroider floss. Then you’ll make each tassel, using something like a cell phone to wrap around. Gather the key ring, beads and small craft pom poms. Then double or even quadruple your embroidery floss and use it to string everything together!
